Visit with Bob and Dottie Webber
By David Ira Kagan

On July 27, 2010, this writer, his wife and two friends experienced the pleasure of visiting the legendary Webbers at their cabin home high above Slate Run on the west side of Pine Creek. From the left are Bob Webber, my wife Beth, Bob’s wife Dottie, and husband and wife Janice and Dave Lovell, from Jersey Shore. We are enjoying tea and cookies at the picnic table just outside their dwelling. The Webbers have lived for over 40 years in their vista-blessed aerie, existing harmoniously with nature, without the modern conveniences of electricity, running water or telephone service. Bob is a retired forester and the person mainly responsible for the creation and maintenance of hiking and skiing trails in the mountains surrounding his home, including the popular Golden Eagle and Black Forest trails. Bob occasionally leads hikes in the area, and to be able to participate in one is a very special experience, as Bob is most knowledgeable about the history, the flora and the fauna of the northcentral Pennsylvania region. His hikes are announced in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, or interested folks may contact Bob by writing to Box 15, Slate Run, PA, 17769. His wife, Dottie, a lover of her cats, is a descendant of the Pine Creek Valley pioneer Tomb family.
